For College of Engineering purposes, a student is considered a transfer student until more than 50% of their total course work is earned at UNO. Transfer students will have their transcripts evaluated very carefully, with special emphasis on the equivalence of courses. Transfer students from other colleges and universities must have a 2.5 overall academic average (4 point system) in order to be eligible for admission to the UNO College of Engineering. Transfer credits accepted by the Office of Admissions will normally be applicable to a degree in engineering if they correspond to courses in the curricula of the college. (In some cases, courses with no direct equivalent may be accepted as electives.)
Junior and senior level engineering courses will be accepted if completed at a program which confers baccalaureate engineering degrees and the engineering program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). No transfer credit will be considered for courses in which the student did not earn at least a grade of "C." At least 25% of the degree requirements for each degree must be taken at UNO. Of those hours, a minimum of 15 semester hours must be senior level work in the student's major field.
Transfer students from engineering technology programs are especially cautioned not to assume that courses in physics or electronics (to list only two major areas) are automatically transferable. Transfer credit will be granted only if the courses are fully equivalent to the corresponding UNO subjects; i.e. electronics WITH calculus might be acceptable, but electronics WITHOUT calculus is definitely not. Normally, transfer credit will not be accepted for engineering courses taken in a technology program.
The transfer student's previous coursework will be evaluated by the student's department chair and the Associate Dean.
The evaluation of a student's earlier credits by the UNO Office of Admissions is for general university purposes only. The extent to which the credits fulfill the respective engineering degree requirements as listed in the General University Catalog will be determined by the Dean of the UNO College of Engineering.
It should be noted that all previous work, including all credits for an earlier degree, is counted towards the evaluation of a transfer student's grade point average. To be specific, an applicant who holds a B.S. degree in sciences from a university other than UNO and who accumulated a 2.3 GPA may be ineligible for admission to the UNO College of Engineering. The minimum GPA is 2.5. Applicants with credits from UNO as well as other universities must have a 2.5 GPA if more than 50% of their course work was taken outside UNO, and a 2.2 GPA if 50% or more of their credits were earned within UNO.
All transfer students who receive credit for English 1158 must validate the credit by passing the English Proficiency Examination for Transfer Students. This rule does not apply to students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in the United States. See the UNO General Catalog under "Transfer Students" for details and contact the English department for exam dates.
Students whose native language is not English should refer to the UNO General Catalog for information regarding English transfer credit. |
