NEW ORLEANS, May 17, 2005 — The College of Engineering's 32nd Annual Honors and Awards Ceremony was held on the evening of Tuesday May 17 in the University Center Grand Ballroom. The event is held each year to recognize outstanding students and faculty.
Dr. Norma Jean Mattei, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering served as Master of Ceremonies. Dr. Russell E. Trahan, Dean, College of Engineering, welcomed guests and presided over the presentations of awards.
Students and faculty received awards from businesses, organizations, and local chapters, student organizations, and from the college and its academic departments.
Outstanding College Scholars were also recognized at the ceremony. These are students with a Grade Point Average of 3.5 or above. Speaking to all in attendance, Dr. Trahan emphasized the accomplishments of these students by explaining that only approximately 8% of the engineering students have achieved that GPA, so these students are in roughly the top 8% of the students of the College of Engineering.
