UNO Engineering Students Win at ASCE Deep South Regional Conference

April 22, 2008 — The University of New Orleans American Society of Civil Engineers Steel Bridge team placed first overall, the Concrete Canoe team placed second overall and the UNO technical presentation garnered third place at the ASCE Deep South Regional Conference at LSU in early April.

  Steel Bridge Team

The Steel Bridge team qualified for the national contest to be held May 23-24 at The University of Florida at Gainesville.

The Steel Bridge team was judged tops in all categories, including economy, construction speed, stiffness, lightness and efficiency. Team members were Jahan Aghakasiri, Motjaba Aghigbi, Daniel Flores, Carlos Zarraga, Joe Guillory, Chris Rau, Ali Tareh and Daniel Bobeck.

Canoe Team  

The Concrete Canoe team placed second in women's endurance, men's endurance, co-ed sprint, oral presentation and final product judging. The team place third in the women's sprint and design paper judging. Members of the Concrete Canoe team were: Mallory Davis, Miros Diaz, Mayra Flores, Josh Hutchinson, Richard Morris, Jenni Schindler, Charles Williams and Carlos Zarraga.
